Apparently Robert Califf did such a good job of helping Big Pharma shield themselves from any liabilities due to the opioid crisis that destroyed the lives of so many Americans while he was head of the FDA under President Obama, that he is being brought back to lead the FDA again to help Big Pharma continue growing in record profits and sales as they get ready to expand the market for the COVID-19 gene-altering shots by having Americans get vaccinated every year, along with the already profitable flu shots.
While he was approved to lead the FDA by the Senate in an overwhelming vote of support with an 89-4 Senate vote on his confirmation in 2016, this time around he barely survived the confirmation vote which was 50-46, facing bi-partisan opposition to his confirmation.
The Democratic senators who voted against him were Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.; Maggie Hassan, D-N.H.; Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; and Ed Markey, D-Mass.
Senators Joe Manchin and Republican Senator Mike Braun from Indiana paired up to write an op-ed piece published at USA Today to voice their opposition to Califf’s confirmation as head of the FDA.
Since OxyContin was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1995, more than 500,000 Americans have died from overdoses related to opioids and synthetic opioids.
Nearly three decades later, more than 101,000 Americans – over 1,500 West Virginians and nearly 2,500 Hoosiers – died between June 2020 and June 2021. It’s clear that not much has changed in the way the FDA approves and manages these highly addictive, destructive drugs killing Americans at an astonishing rate.
In fact, it has become increasingly clear that the FDA has stood by, and even enabled, the pharmaceutical industry’s decision to choose profits over American lives.
High overdose rates, not enough treatment facilities
Many families across the United States have been impacted by the drug epidemic that continues to ravage our nation. In our beloved states of West Virginia and Indiana, our communities continue to face disproportionately high overdose rates, with not nearly enough treatment facilities to care for our neighbors in need.
However, instead of reining in opioid prescribing, the agency in charge of regulating these substances continues to approve even more deadly opioids. It is crystal clear that the FDA has not done enough to address the drug epidemic ravaging our nation.
Given the dire situation facing our communities, it makes absolutely no sense to install a candidate who has already led the FDA in its most senior position but failed to address this crisis in any meaningful way.
A poor record on opioids
The current FDA commissioner nominee, Dr. Robert Califf, has significant ties to the pharmaceutical industry, and his leadership of the FDA would take us backward, not forward. His nomination is an insult to the many families and individuals who have had their lives changed forever as a result of addiction.
During Dr. Califf’s previous tenure as FDA commissioner, drug-related overdoses went up, a clear indicator the FDA hadn’t made any necessary, meaningful changes to address the crisis facing our country. In 2016, then-Commissioner Califf announced the FDA’s plan to overhaul its opioid policies.
But between 2016 and 2017, the FDA approved five new opioids and only removed a single opioid from the market. Dr. Califf also commissioned a report on opioids, but the report failed to review the flawed enriched enrollment randomized withdrawal (EERW) methodology used to approve new opioids.
Reports have also indicated that Dr. Califf intends to keep Dr. Janet Woodcock on board as a senior adviser if confirmed to lead the FDA. During her tenure at the FDA, Dr. Woodcock has directly overseen the approval of numerous highly addictive drugs to market.
She also decided to ignore the advice of an FDA advisory committee when she chose to approve Zohydro, a questionable pure hydrocodone drug with strong risk of overdose and death.
The pharmaceutical industry has benefitted from the status quo at the FDA under the leadership of Dr. Califf and Dr. Woodcock, and the American people have suffered for it. (Full article.)
Since four democrats opposed Califf’s nomination, that means some Republicans were bought out by Big Pharma to vote for his confirmation, and they are: Sens. Roy Blunt; R-Mo., Richard Burr, R-N.C.; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Mitt Romney, R-Utah; and Pat Toomey, R-Penn.
These Republicans have apparently betrayed their constituents since Christian, Pro-life groups opposed Califf’s nomination due to his history of supporting chemical abortion drugs.
The national pro-life grassroots advocacy organization Susan B. Anthony List lamented Califf’s confirmation as a victory for those seeking to increase the prevalence of chemical abortions.
“We’re deeply disappointed in the result of today’s vote,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser in a statement.
“Robert Califf’s confirmation to lead the FDA paves the way for permanent authorization of mail-order abortion drugs, at a dire cost to women’s health and safety and the lives of countless unborn children,” she added. “We urge our allies in the states and Congress to take swift action to stop the flow of these dangerous drugs to post offices and pharmacies across America.” (Full article.)
Yesterday, Project Veritas released a video recording with “FDA Executive Officer, Christopher Cole” who was caught on camera admitting that the FDA was planning on making the COVID shots an annual requirement, in a financial windfall for the Pfizer and other COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers.
He also confirmed that the FDA works for the pharmaceutical companies who pay the FDA “hundreds of millions of dollars a year to hire and keep the reviewers to approve their products.”
The evidence is so obvious now that the FDA is controlled by Big Pharma, and it has been that way for decades, but what continues to mystify me is that those who reject Big Pharma’s corporate media propaganda that still pretends the FDA and other health agencies actually work for the public to ensure public hearth, when in fact they only protect the interests of the profits of Big Pharma, is that this is still spun as a partisan political issue, where everything right now is being blamed on Biden and his administration.
How can this be a partisan political issue?? Donald Trump’s FDA also did nothing to stop the opioid crisis, and Donald Trump gave Big Pharma more money than all the previous presidents of the United States combined, during the planned COVID “pandemic.”
And yet to this day, Trump supporters sincerely believe that somehow Trump is against Big Pharma, usually using the “Trump is stupid” argument that somehow during his 4 years of office, and continued through until today, he just simply “didn’t know” how dangerous the COVID-19 shots were.
Here are some recent emails I have received the past few days from his cult-like followers who did not like the fact that I mentioned that Scott Gottlieb served Trump as the head of his FDA.
Really haven’t you grown up by now and dealt with your Trump Derangement Syndrome? You’re almost as bad as HRC or the left wing media.
Trump had his problems, however he was easily the greatest President we’ve had since Reagan and for his accomplishments against all odds, did more for the U.S. along with keeping us out of wars than any president in history.
Not sure why you are bashing him they way you are in light of what the currant administration is doing across the board to destroy this country. We certainly were better off with Trump than with an incompetent Biden.
It makes me sad that I can’t forward your articles like this to friends even though I routinely do and appreciate 90% of the content, because that 90% is tainted with the simplistically-founded and unforgiving, relentless blaming of Trump at what you consider every opportunity.
If I didn’t know better and if it weren’t for the God-centered content of your work I’d think you were Liberal Democrat at heart.
Most of my many friends now know that Trump sold out with “Warp Speed” but out of ignorance and out of being convinced by Fauci that hundreds of thousands would die if he didn’t appear to become instrumental in championing their “solutions” to Covid.
“President Donald Trump’s Operation Warp Speed that robbed what was remaining of America’s wealth and handed it over to his buddies on Wall Street,”
But my friends also never forget all the great things he did and realize how he insisted that he would preserve our right of choice; our right to say NO to the non-vax (I heard him say it twice) . So my fledgling believer friends, who only now are coming to fully realize that Jesus is synonymous with the Truth,
already have the perception and discernment of the Spirit and the compassion to actually forgive Trump.
If someone cannot summon up any grateful acknowledgment for anything that Trump did right, nor any forgiveness for his sins, well then by all means keep throwing that first stone.
Terry and the rest of you can forgive Trump all you want, but he has not repented of his views on the COVID-19 shots, and in fact remains very proud of his achievements. To continue to excuse Trump because he was “ignorant” and was fooled by Fauci and others makes you look like the laughing stock of the entire world right now, so deranged are your views on Trump.
Those of you on the Right who continue to support this criminal, are a huge problem in uniting this country behind our common enemies, who are the Wall Street Billionaires and Bankers, of whom Trump is included.
You all have blood on your hands, and you better stop emailing me and explaining your support for Trump to me, and get ready to start explaining it to Jesus Christ when he returns to this earth to setup his kingdom, which will NOT include pharmaceutical products.
God’s judgement will be both swift, and complete, and those who still trust Big Pharma to take care of their health instead of Jesus Christ, will have to pay the price for their idolatry, and that includes almost everyone in the Christian Church.
